DOC WEST
Raised on a ranch in Flatonia, Texas, Doc West always knew that music would be a big part of his future. From an early age, he was influenced by several singer-songwriters like George Strait, Garth Brooks, Chris LeDoux, and Merle Haggard. It wouldn’t be until his college years that all the pieces started coming together.
As a kid, Doc was active in 4-H & FFA. He enjoyed his college experience at Texas A&M University, where he studied to become a veterinarian, attending concerts and other live music events on the weekends. Little did he know, the performances he was seeing by Texas artists would have a significant impact on his love for music.
It was a Randy Rogers Band concert on a night in College Station, Texas that provided just the encouragement he needed to purchase his first pawn shop guitar. He began singing and strumming, and soon, performing live. “It was seeing the interaction between the artists and crowds that made me want to perform, to have others feel the same emotions I did, but through my own music,” says West.
Doc West worked his music craft as a break from the intense curriculum required to obtain his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. In Fall 2006, he formed his first band. Shortly after graduating, he began writing and recording his first EP, Pieces, which was released in August 2013 and includes the charted radio single, “Heart of Stone”.
In November 2014, he released his first full-length album, titled Saddlin’ Up, with the charting radio singles, “Dancehall Dream”, “Whole Lotta Bull”, and “If She Wanted To”. The video for “If She Wanted To” won Best Music Video at the 2016 American Advertising Awards.
?Doc West is well-integrated within the Texas Music Scene and has opened for various artists, including Cody Johnson, Johnny Lee, Rick Trevino, Cory Morrow, Casey Donahew, Blackhawk, John Anderson, Randy Rogers, Roger Creager, Josh Abbott and Aaron Watson among others.
Doc West and his band can be seen and heard throughout the state of Texas as they continue to build their fan base and write about real-life experiences that listeners can relate to. In addition to traditional venues, Doc also enjoys playing charity benefits for a variety of causes. He feels it’s his way of giving back through the talent with which the Good Lord has blessed him.
